This last weekend we decided last minute to head up to one of our favorite places and go camping. We headed up Friday and got their in the dark, so finding a place to park the trailer was quite tricky, but even worse was trying to fit it in a very tight spot in the dark. The plan was to get up early Saturday and drive over to a new place my hubby heard about called Petes Hole. Rys brother and dad were going to drive up and meet us there in the morning. It was a little drive from where we were camping so instead of going clear back out to the highway and around we decided to just take a road over the mountain to get there. We past through several muddy/snowy spots and they weren't too bad, but we knew that if we ran into anything wetter we would be in trouble. We had already been driving about an hour when we came to that wetter spot. Our tires were slipping off the road, and with four little ones in the truck I was really terrified.(It wasn't too long ago that Ryan slipped off a road like this and luckily a tree stopped him). We decided to get all of the kids out of the truck so that ry could back up to a spot where he could turn the truck around. It was pretty scary to watch his tires trying to go off of the edge as he manuvered down the road. The picture above isnt the spot where we were going off, but the spot where he turned around and blew lots of mud all over. Needless to say we all got out alright with lots of muddy shoes, a muddy dog, and a long trip ahead back down the road, out to the hwy and back up the mountain on the other side to get to petes hole. I think the kids thought it was kind of fun walking along the road where we also spotted cougar tracks. I was so grateful that the baby slept through all of the driving and dirt roads because although it was definately the long way around I sure enjoyed looking at all of the beautiful scenery and just being out with the kids. We finally got there and it was beautiful. The boys and ry hiked up from petes hole to some other places along the river to fish for about 2 hrs. or so while Sarah the baby and I stayed back down and hiked around, picked flowers and had interesting little conversations. When they got back we headed back towards camp. We stopped and got dinner in Mt. Pleasant and then Trish and Cody joined us for fishing at the pond by our camp. The night ended with s'mores and alot of dirty tired kids. I wish weekends were longer, nights at home were as peaceful as nights in the mountains, and dirt made ya clean.
